Twice a year we get a crop of loquats- sometimes called Japanese Plums. They are very good but the mockingbirds, woodpeckers, opossums, raccoons, and jays think so as well.
Ours looked a little rough this year due to the drought and the freeze, but the loquat will at least fruit twice, so the second crop may get enough rain to improve the harvest.
It is spring in a tough year, so I will leave most of these to the birds for their young. I’ll probably plant more loquat seedlings and other fruits like plums, since citrus is not as secure a crop as it once was, and our citrus orchard was wiped out, leaving plenty of space.
The birds will benefit from my loss and that’s OK, because I can always use more avian models.
I have one or two tangerines hanging on, but barely. Pray for rain, and an eventual cure so that citrus can thrive here again.
